This beautiful girl celebrated her 2nd Birthday with a cake smash session at Life is Art Studios! Ireland’s a pro at smashing cakes! This is her second time celebrating here at the studio! Her 1st Birthday was one of my favourite cake smash sessions to date, & the simplicity & soft colours her Mommy chose this time around made for the sweetest Birthday celebration ever! Her expressions will melt your heart! Enjoy!

When is the last time you had family photos taken? There seems to be a huge gap in which families miss out on capturing milestones on camera. When your children are little, the camera is always ready to go! Family photo sessions are booked annually with your favourite photographer, & you make sure not to miss out on those special family moments… and then, the teenage years come & go without anything more than a school portrait, or a graduation night snapshot with a girl/guy they dated for a month. It’s a real struggle; trying to get your teenagers in front of the camera is like pulling teeth. So, when this family contacted me I jumped at the opportunity to capture a family during the years in between, the lost years. The years before the grandchildren arrive. I loved to hear their stories of the places they’ve been, the traveling, where they went away to collage/University, & where they’re living now. It’s not easy to get everyone in the same place & it’s not easy to get everyone excited to have their photos taken in their teens & 20’s but kudos to this Mama who pulled it off & gathered her family together; just look at these beautiful memories!

I met this lovely family when Annabelle arrived, & now two years later I had the opportunity to photograph her sister Charlotte. It was a little like a déjà vu during her newborn session. There were lots of similarities between these two sisters.

I often get requests for siblings to be involved in newborn sessions & depending on the ages of the children you never really know what you’re going to get. The challenging part is the fact that siblings are often going through such huge changes & shifts in attention & family dynamics, that it can often be difficult to get the heart melting poses parents so desperately want. Over the years I’ve done some research to understand the changes that go on when a new baby arrives. I’m very empathetic about how toddlers feel during this time. I never force them into posing with the baby & if a toddler is absolutely not wanting anything to do with baby that is OK. To alleviate the stress that comes from “it’s all about the baby” I turn the session around so the very beginning of a newborn session is all about the older child, and not the baby. Then, when it’s time for baby’s turn to be the star of the show Daddy takes the “Big Girl/Boy” out for a special treat while we finish up the session.

It’s so hard when your world has been turned upside down… Here at Life is Art Studios empathy, compassion, & the understanding of a child’s needs is first priority, BEAUTIFUL sibling photos only happen when all of these things are taken into consideration. I’m absolutely in LOVE with how these turned out!

Five years ago I met this family when I photographed their son Jake as a newborn. Through milestones & precious babies added to their growing family I’ve loved getting to know them & capturing so many memories!

This session took place at Sunnidale park here in Barrie, ON. We’re lucky to have so many beautiful parks, gardens, beaches & splash pads here in Barrie for families to enjoy!

I’ve had the pleasure of capturing this families memories for the past 3 years. I’ve loved watching their family grow & change! Planning their on location session was so much fun. They wanted a little bit of everything, a beach, forest, bridge, ponds & I found the perfect location to give them everything they were looking for. Not many people know that photographers spend many hours chasing gorgeous light, looking for hidden locations all around the city & the surrounding areas. Sometimes we drive around for hours searching for little paths into forests & open fields at different times of the day to find beautiful light. It’s a treasure hunt & when you find the perfect location & the perfect time of day it’s so very exciting!

I love when clients send me photos of their wardrobes & we chat about pulling together each outfit to create art that will coordinate with the colours in their home. I cannot wait to create some beautiful wall art for their newly renovated home!
